Golden Era style production and lyricism from independent Hip Hop group made up of Boom Bap Veteran Dr.G and Underground Emcees Ghost One & Coopz. 19 tracks of raw Boom Bap beats & razor sharp lyrics featuring the likes of Hell Razah, Resolute, Chris Rivers, Cambatta, Moon Crickets, DJ Tray, DJ HWR. This self titled album is definitely essential for the collection of any true Hip Hop connoisseur.
When one first listens to the pair, Ghost One and Coopz, spittin’ to those Dr. G instrumentals; you can just feel something special is about to ensue. For some, it is nostalgic going back in time to the Golden Era when Boom Bap was at the forefront of Hip Hop. For others, it is something brand new, aggressive lyricism shot out the gun of harsh reality with numerology and symbolism crafted into the ammunition that is used in a battle against the mainstream (spiritual vs. robotic).
Most artists live life and talk about all their experiences through their music. A true Hip Hop artist takes that aspect and puts it on their shoulders to explain their observations in a poetic manner. Often times, they are standing outside the world and looking into it (through a magnified glass, so to speak).
In the UK, storytellin’-wise, it is no different. The only thing in the UK that is visibly different, Hip Hop has remained in the underground. Untainted by the clutches of the mainstream music industry, it is able to stay more pure to it’s roots.

It’s been three years since Werd released his debut album Untitled Scot. However this year on he returns with another solo effort. Featuring production collaborations with various talented people throughout Scotland, the album is both varied in sound and concepts. The 13 track LP is released on both digital and limited edition digipack format via his own self-run publishing S.O.S. based in Edinburgh.
Vaguely following on from the conceptual mixtape Patient Empowerment, Werd speaks from a confused and secluded place in his own mind. His brain cells, or mental cell, depending on listener’s interpretation. Having been left alone and ‘alienated’ from both the world and hip-hop scene, we are given an honest and often critical opinion of the human race and music industry. This is no longer about local hip-hop, pushing the music or gaining exposure. Werd’s new release is a wild mix of emotion based on frustration with our current system of life on a global scale.
Featuring production from: Bigg Taj, Righteous Fist, Konchis, Madman Speakz, Dixie, C. Boyd, Sea-Bass, Tam O’Shatner, Lorne MacDougall, Big Shamu, Loonatic Beats & Dale A Thomson. Album contains no additional vocal features.

A common slang term for visually appealing persons or effects used to draw mass attention is eye candy. The implication is that they are eye-catching in a superficial fashion, for example due to adding an element of sexuality. Like actual candy, this addition is seen to be neither nutritious nor substantial, but rather provides a potentially addictive appeal which will sustain the attention of a wider audience, possibly despite their better nature.
